U.S. Customs has announced that it is monitoring developments in Japan carefully and is specifically assessing the potential for radiological contamination associated with the impact of the earthquake and tsunami to Japan’s nuclear facilities.
U.S. Customs, which routinely screens passengers and cargo for radiation at U.S. ports, has issued field guidance to pay particular attention to arrivals from Japan.
This enhanced screening may delay cargo availability at the port of arrival. NNR is monitoring this situation and we are working closely with carriers and their handling agents.
Your local NNR representative office can provide specific information on cargo availability delays experienced at a particular port of arrival.
If additional measures are implemented by the U.S. government impacting inbound cargo, updates will be provided accordingly.
