Power Shortage at NNR offices and related facilities

NNR’s facilities were not seriously damaged by last week’s earthquake. Starting today though rolling blackouts are now in effect until further notice. This will have a slight impact on our operations and staffing until further notice.

Difficulty to obtain Diesel/Gasoline

Fuel for trucks and cars is difficult to obtain at the present time. Large traffic back-logs are being experienced on the roads due to the rolling blackouts that are affecting the mass transit system causing individuals to utilize their own cars. Pick-up and deliveries will be impacted until further notice.

NNR Staff

NNR is happy to report that all of our staff and families are safe and were not injured during last Friday’s Earthquake. Thank you for your concern.

Earlier this year NNR decided to make a significant investment to enhance the ocean capabilities of PowerNET, NNR’s enterprise logistics system. The new system features are expected to roll out by the end of this year.  Some of the key improvements will be:

  • Upgrades to the customer web portal for both FCL and LCL shipment tracking.
  • Additional email alert capabilities for “push-based” ocean cargo visibility.
  • Additional EDI implementations with ocean and rail carriers to offer more timely and accurate tracking events.
  • Global standardization of NNR’s ocean documentation (both paper and electronic versions)

According to Andy Hadley, NNR’s Corporate Director of Sales and Marketing, “The growth of our ocean business is one of our most important strategic initiatives.  We are investing in several areas to ensure we are delivering an extremely competitive ocean product.  As an industry leader in IT, we felt improving PowerNET’s capabilities for ocean logistics was the obvious starting point.  We will continue focusing on ocean growth into 2011.”

If you are an active NNR customer but not currently using PowerNET’s web portal solution, please contact your NNR sales representative for more information on how to utilize this excellent tool.

NNR Offers Cargo Screening

As a part of our continuous commitment to the highest quality of service, NNR Global Logistics has taken steps to simplify the cargo screening process for our clients. We are pleased to announce that we now have 18 locations in the US which are participating in CCSP and CCSF, and are fully authorized to carry out TSA screening procedures. Our staff have been trained and vetted to meet the new TSA security requirements and are fully competent to handle any type of cargo that our clients might have for shipping. We value the trust that you have shown in us and are taking additional steps to further improve your experience with NNR Global Logistics. In addition to CCSP qualifications, we have introduced 8 locations that fully comply with TAPA-A guidelines.

CCSP Background

Among numerous new procedures implemented by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Certified Cargo Screening Program (CCSP) is the latest development that will affect the way cargo is shipped on a passenger aircraft. The program has been developed as a result of a 9/11 Commission recommendation and was been launched on August 1, 2010.

The program envisions a series of security procedures in cargo screening which will ensure the safety of a traveling public. The key to the new requirements is screening cargo at a piece level. While the procedure is likely to prolong the processing times for some shippers, the benefits of security far outweigh the risks which unauthorized cargo presents to a passenger aircraft. In order to minimize the backlogs at the airports, and keep the bureaucracy to a minimum, TSA has introduced Certified Cargo Screening Facility (CCSF) program. Participants are vetted, and after an extensive evaluation, are granted a certification that allows them to perform the procedures at their facilities.

The TSA strongly encourages businesses to take notice of the new rules, and review how it will impact their supply chains. Some of the things to consider in light of the new CCSP regulations are:

  • Are your shipments carried on a passenger airplane?
  • Will the shipments be comprised if opened for screening?
  • What will the cost of screening be?
  • Are your products sensitive for delays?
  • Are you participating in other supply chain programs? (C-TPAT, cGMP, TAPA, etc.)

NNR Screening Cargo at 100% as August 1st Deadline Looms

As of August 1st, 100% of all cargo moving on passenger flights will have to be screened. NNR Global Logistics is now performing 100-percent screening of outbound cargo shipments booked on passenger aircraft at 18 out of its 20 U.S. locations. This screening policy is in line with tougher requirements imposed by the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA.) Andy Hadley, NNR USA's Corporate Director of Sales and Marketing said "NNR USA has made a signifi cant investment in making eighteen of our facilities CCSF (Certified Cargo Screening Facilities). Many of our competitors have not made this investment in what are deemed smaller markets and now with the August 1st deadline looming are trying to play catch-up. In late 2008 NNR USA made the decision to invest in making all put two locations CCSF facilities. We have been screening cargo for over one and a half years now and are ready for the August 1st deadline."

NNR USA also has eight facilities certified as TAPA-A which specialize in handling high value cargo. For more information on NNR’s Secure Supply Chain initiative please contact your local NNR Branch Office.
